In an interview with Qatari television on the sidelines of his visit to Doha, the Turkish Foreign Minister highlighted Qatar’s efforts through various diplomatic channels to contribute to resolving the crisis between Tehran and Washington.

“We hope to receive positive news in the coming days. Turkiye is also coordinating closely with Qatar on this matter,” Fidan declared, emphasizing that the security and stability of Qatar and the entire region are of strategic interest to Ankara.

The minister also highlighted the strong historical ties between Turkiye and Qatar, noting that the foundations of the strategic partnership between the two countries were laid during the reign of the late Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, whom he described as a visionary leader whose contributions continue to benefit the region.

He also praised the role played by the current Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, stating that since assuming power in 2013 he has strengthened relations between Ankara and Doha and boosted cooperation in addressing regional crises.

Regarding the crisis between Washington and Tehran, the Turkish foreign minister warned that its escalation has negative repercussions for the regional economy and could trigger a larger crisis.

The dispute remains centered on transit through the Strait of Hormuz. While Washington supports the passage of commercial vessels via a route other than the one established by Iran, Tehran maintains that it will attack any ship that crosses this strategic waterway without prior coordination with Iranian authorities.
