Angela Davis and Wole Soyinka to attend literary festival in Brazil

Brasilia, Jul 21 (Prensa Latina) U.S. activist and philosopher Angela Davis and Nigerian writer Wole Soyinka are among the featured guests at the Paraty International Literary Festival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, according to media reports.

The two intellectuals will take part in the program organized by the Social Service of Commerce (SESC) as part of the event.

On July 25, Davis and Soyinka will headline a session titled “America and Africa: An Atlantic Conversation,” moderated by Brazilian journalist Flavia Oliveira.

  According to Agencia Brasil, this will be the first time they two share a public stage to reflect on the paths to freedom, democracy, and human rights, as well as the historical and cultural ties between the two continents.

  The SESC program at the event also includes panel discussions, readings, performances, and talks with prominent Brazilian writers, researchers, and artists.

Activities will cover topics such as memory, ancestry, artificial intelligence, literary translation, mental health, Black culture, communication, and the challenges of contemporary literary creation.
