Protests in Ukraine against government decision span 16 cities

Kyiv, Jul 21 (Prensa Latina) Protests over the dismissal of Defense Minister Mikhail Fyodorov have spread to at least 16 cities across Ukraine, according to the UNIAN news agency.

Demonstrations had previously been reported in 12 cities: Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Ivano-Frankivsk, Lutsk, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Ternopil, Sumy, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, and the Kyiv-controlled city of Zaporizhzhia.

According to the latest data, demonstrations have also been reported in Izmail, Uzhhorod, Cherkasy, and Chernivtsi. In many cities, hundreds of people are protesting for the fifth consecutive day.

On July 14, Fyodorov was dismissed from his post along with the rest of the cabinet. On July 16, he accused the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Army, Oleksandr Syrskyi, of obstructing the reform of the Armed Forces and the mobilization system.

At the same time, demonstrations were held across Ukraine in support of Fyodorov and against Syrskyi.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is considering dismissing Syrskyi to resolve the serious crisis affecting the military command following the Defense Minister’s dismissal.

Syrskyi became a scapegoat during the protests against Fyodorov’s dismissal, while Zelenskyy has summoned the military leadership to a meeting; he plans to hear military assessments of the battlefield situation and discuss potential candidates for the position of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
