Puerto Rico: USA is attempting to delegitimize the peoples’ struggles

San Juan, Jul 21 (Prensa Latina) – Puerto Rico’s Hostosian National Independence Movement (MINH) stated that the US is once again attempting to delegitimize the struggles of peoples by fabricating external threats and criminalizing solidarity.

For the Puerto Rican independence organization, Secretary of State Marco Rubio “seems incapable of distinguishing between terrorism and solidarity among peoples who share a history of colonialism, intervention, and resistance.”

“Confusing the fraternal ties between nations defending their sovereignty with criminal activities not only distorts reality but also seeks to justify the continuation of a foreign policy based on confrontation and interference,” stated the MINH leadership, headed by co-presidents Carlos Vega and Angel Rodriguez Leon.

It underscored that “it is particularly striking that the United States government accuses Cuba of practices that show its own history of intervention in Latin America and the Caribbean.”

“History shows that Washington has boosted, financed, or backed coups d’etat, military interventions, and covert operations against governments that sought to respond to the interests and aspirations of their peoples,” the group asserted.

Furthermore, it added, the support provided by the United States to right-wing dictatorial regimes is widely known, as is the training of repressive forces responsible for grave human rights violations in our region.

“In contrast to that record, Cuba has played an internationally recognized role through its contribution to peace and cooperation among peoples—as evidenced by its participation in the talks that contributed to the peace agreement in Colombia,” the MINH argued.
