Folk company represents Cuban culture in Europe

Camaguey, Cuba, Jul 22 (Prensa Latina) — During its summer tour of Spain and France, the Camagua Folk Company is solidifying the presence of Cuban culture on European stages through performances that strengthen artistic exchange between peoples.

As part of its 2026 international summer tour, the Camaguey-based group participated in the 39th edition of the Folk Bizian International Festival held in Galdakao, in the Spanish Basque Country—one of the most renowned events dedicated to global dance and musical traditions.

Between Thursday, July 16, and Sunday, July 19, the company brought its repertoire to the towns of Galdakao, Bengoetxe, Areatza, Sopela, and Usansolo. There, they presented shows such as *Caballero, que suene su música por siempre*, *Homenaje*, *A lo cubano*, and *Cubanisimo*—productions that reflect the richness of the island’s cultural heritage.

The performances were well-received by the public and helped bring traditional Cuban expressions closer to audiences of diverse nationalities, within a context where folklore festivals serve as prime venues for cultural exchange and the preservation of identities.

During their stay in Galdakao, Camagua members were welcomed at City Hall by the Councilor for Culture, Edurne Espilla; the Councilor for Youth, Amets Iturbe; and representatives from the Andra Mari dance group, led by its president, Unai Zabala—a meeting that reaffirmed cooperative ties between cultural institutions.

Thanks to the organizational efforts of Andra Mari, this edition of the Folklore Bizian Festival brought together the Camagua Folk Company, the Benja Gasy National Association from Madagascar, and the host artists in a program designed to promote cross-cultural understanding through music and dance.

As part of the event’s parallel activities, Cuban artists shared their talent with students from various schools in Galdakao—an initiative that helped bring younger generations closer to Cuba’s folkloric traditions and cultural heritage.
