Through July 26, the historic city of Paraty will host 21 main-program panels, alongside an extensive parallel agenda that this year reaches a record 46 partner venues and nearly a thousand cultural activities, according to the organizers.
This edition is dedicated to Fontela (1940–1998), considered one of the most original voices in contemporary Brazilian poetry due to the philosophical depth and conciseness of her work.
The opening takes place this Wednesday with the panel “The Light Enters Stealthily” (*Entra furtivamente la luz*), featuring critic Augusto Massi—a friend and editor of Fontela—in conversation with poet Marília Garcia, who will read a text written specifically to inaugurate the festival.
Key international guests include British novelist Zadie Smith, Spaniard Eva Baltasar, Algerian Kamel Daoud, Italian Andrea Bajani, Guatemalan Eduardo Halfon, and Angolan Ana Paula Tavares, winner of the 2025 Camões Prize.
The presence of authors living outside their countries of origin is a central curatorial theme of this edition, fostering reflection on exile, migration, identity, and the transformations of the contemporary world.
The program will address topics such as democracy, authoritarianism, memory, armed conflict, colonialism, racism, feminism, migration, the environment, architecture, and literature, as well as debates on poetic creation and contemporary fiction.
