Interior Minister Carlos Negro led a meeting yesterday with officials from the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF) and the Uruguayan Professional Soccer Players’ Union (Mutual).
They analyzed the incidents that took place after the match between Rentistas and Cerrito—which left one player injured—as well as the security operations planned for sporting events.
The Ministry of the Interior reaffirmed its commitment to working alongside soccer-related bodies to eradicate violence at sports venues, while the judicial investigation into the recorded incidents continues.
Mutual President Diego Scotti described the meeting as positive and explained that the organization had received a proposal from the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF), which would be analyzed in the coming hours.
“Acts of violence in soccer keep happening. We are very concerned because they continue to occur, and very frequently, one after another,” he stated.
The resumption of Uruguayan soccer depends on further talks between the parties and an analysis of the proposals presented to improve security conditions.
