Brazil: PT youth seek renewal in Congress

Brasilia, Jul 23 (Prensa Latina) Young leaders of Brazil's ruling Workers' Party (PT) are boosting the People's Congress movement, a platform seeking to renew the party's representation in the Chamber of Deputies for the 2026 elections.

Launched this week, the initiative initially brings together eight pre-candidates from seven Brazilian states, all under 35 years old and running for the first time for a seat in the Lower House; as most already serve on municipal councils or legislative assemblies.

The group is comprised of Luna Zarattini (Sao Paulo), Pedro Rousseff (Minas Gerais), Ana Julia Ribeiro (Parana), Rosa Amorim and Kari Santos (Pernambuco), Laura Sito (Rio Grande do Sul), Brisa Bracchi (Rio Grande do Norte), and Eduardo Zanatta (Santa Catarina).

Brasil 247 informed that the movement was conceived by Sao Paulo City Councilwoman Luna Zarattini, who President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva invited to run for a federal seat representing Sao Paulo and who also serves on the youth coordination team for the president’s reelection campaign.

Organizers stated that the People’s Congress aims to strengthen a generational renewal process that, they assert, is already underway in municipalities and states, and project it now at the national level.
