Argentines in Buenos Aires and Mendoza reaffirm support for Cuba

Buenos Aires, Jul 25 (Prensa Latina) Amidst tangos and socially and politically conscious songs, those gathered at the Miranda Cultural Center reaffirmed their support for the Cuban people, who are resisting a harsh economic siege and an oil blockade pushed to extreme limits.

Jose Cruz Campagnoli, of the National Directorate of the political group *Patria y Futuro/Movimiento Derecho al Futuro* (Homeland and Future/Right to the Future Movement), commented: “We humbly embrace the causes of those who refused to remain on their knees and won their independence; those who, despite having a poor country, achieved the highest literacy rates in Latin America; those who, facing great difficulties, managed to achieve the highest health indicators in Latin America.”

“We know,” the Peronist leader continued, “that when Argentina once again has a pro-people government in the Casa Rosada and begins to dismantle the submission to the United States imposed by the current regime, it will need a great deal of regional solidarity—because solidarity is reciprocal and a two-way street—and Cuba will be there to support us.”

Leonardo Baster, Cuba’s Charge d’Affaires, outlined the harsh situation the Cuban people are facing due to the relentless and inhumane blockade that afflicts every aspect of life on the island in an attempt to drive th,em to despair; yet, thanks to the unity forged over years of revolution, they are resisting and standing firm, he emphasized.

In Mendoza, at the foot of the Andes Mountains, solidarity with Cuba is also being felt. There, supportive residents gathered last night to express their backing and condemn the ruthless economic war waged by the Trump administration against the nearby island.

At the Memory, Truth, and Justice Museum in the city of Mendoza—the site of the former D-2 clandestine detention center—several activities were held to reiterate unwavering support for the Cuban people. These were two of the many acts of solidarity promoted by the Argentine Solidarity Movement with Cuba as part of the “We Stand with Cuba” campaign. Further activities are scheduled for Saturday in Buenos Aires and La Plata to mark the Day of National Rebellion and the historic date of July 26.

On Sunday, another mural dedicated to the historic leader of the revolution, Fidel Castro—commemorating the centenary of his birth—will be unveiled in Florencio Varela, in the province of Buenos Aires.
