The event was presided over by Cuban Head of State Miguel Diaz-Canel and ICAP President Fernando Gonzalez.

  The gathering brought together more than twenty delegates from the United States, Spain, Australia, and various African nations, who raised their voices together to join the noble cause of defending the sovereignty and self-determination of the Cuban people.

  “This meeting is taking place at a very particular moment, when the enemy is intensifying threats of aggression against the island and against those who show their solidarity; that is why it is so significant that you are joining us today,” Gonzalez stated.

  Speakers included Rosemarie Mealy, of the organization Carlota’s Warriors; Claudia de la Cruz, Executive Director of Pastors for Peace; Jose Lopez, President of the Jose Marti Cultural Association; and Etieron Edwards, a young Cameroonian student at the province’s Latin American School of Medicine.

  “As inhabitants of this world and people of faith, it is essential for us to walk alongside the oppressed. We understand that we have a historical and moral responsibility in the struggle for Cuba’s sovereignty. God’s word calls upon us today to defend life, and we will always stand with you,” added Claudia de la Cruz.

  “The fact that you are present carries great weight. Today, attempts are being made to crush the self-determination of peoples through aggressive, fascist policies. Every day, sanctions and threats fuel the possibility of aggression against the country. We appreciate your company on this long journey we have had to travel,” Diaz-Canel affirmed.

  The gathering was part of the activities leading up to the celebration of the National Day of Cuban Rebellion, which Pinar del Rio will host.
