Ethiopian Minister of Planning and Development Fitsum Assefa, speaking at the 14th Africa Evidence Summit held in this capital on July 23-24, also mentioned the need to identify programs that generate significant results to address these challenges on the continent.
Assefa underscored that policymaking cannot be based solely on intuition but must be guided by reliable data, rigorous analysis, and close collaboration among governments, researchers, and communities.
The minister explained that Ethiopia is strengthening its evidence ecosystem through coordinated efforts among key national institutions.
Assefa specified that the Ministry sets policy guidelines, formulates short-, medium-, and long-term development plans, oversees public investment, and supports climate policy.
Under the theme “Powering Policy with Innovative, Inclusive, and Transparent Data,” the 14th Africa Evidence Summit is bringing together more than 400 policymakers, researchers, innovators, and development partners to explore how evidence and technology can strengthen decision-making across the African continent.
