Spirit of solidarity with Cuba prevails in France

Paris, Jul 26 (Prensa Latina) Unwavering solidarity with Cuba was reaffirmed through calls to reject the U.S. blockade, demands for European governments to stop supporting that policy of strangulation, and calls to increase material aid.

Solidarity organizations such as Cuba Cooperacion, Cuba Si, Cuba Linda, and France Cuba, along with the French Communist Party (PCF) and the General Confederation of Labour (CGT), voiced their support for the island during a rally near the Eiffel Tower.

The event also marked the 73rd anniversary of the attack on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes barracks, as well as the centenary of the birth of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador Otto Vaillant reaffirmed that the Cuban people suffer the effects of the blockade yet remain capable—through incredible effort—of maintaining essential hospital services despite chronic electricity shortages.

The diplomat expressed gratitude for the solidarity shown to Cuba on behalf of millions of people worldwide, noting that the Cuban people and Revolution embody Fidel Castro’s ideals, representing a small nation fighting against imperialism and for justice.

Thus, “standing beside the image of Fidel Castro and the Eiffel Tower—a symbol of France—I say to you with all sincerity: thank you for your solidarity,” the ambassador told the dozens of people attending the event in support of the Caribbean nation.

A key topic addressed by the solidarity organizations and speakers from the CGT and PCF was how to collect targeted donations for Cuba and the logistics of delivering them to the island.
