The day before, during a special parliamentary session marking the 73rd anniversary of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes barracks, Porras expressed Nicaragua’s solidarity with Cuba and highlighted the need to defend the truth in the face of disinformation.
“In these times, lies are told instantly and multiply… that is why we have an obligation to tell the truth,” he stated.
The Parliament President read excerpts from the speech delivered by Co-President Daniel Ortega on July 19, in which he addressed the Nicaraguan electoral process and the need to prevent forces linked to foreign interests from attempting to regain power.
Porras emphasized that the type of elections Nicaragua will not allow again are those used to “capture the government and wrest power from the people.”
He also noted that the National Assembly and relevant institutions would work on reviewing laws to establish mechanisms preventing the actions of sectors he described as coup-plotters and sell-outs.
“Commander Daniel Ortega’s directive is crystal clear,” he affirmed.
The lawmaker defended the concept of “People as President” as an expression of popular participation in the country’s social and economic transformations.
He reaffirmed that peace and security constitute Nicaragua’s greatest strength and called for a review of the legal framework to ensure that no sector acts as an instrument of foreign interests.
