The CSC event, led by its president, Milagros Rivera, and held as part of the 100 Years with Fidel celebrations, included the flag-handover ceremony to the Brigade by social activists Zoan Davila Roldan and Shariana Ferrer Nunez of the Feminist Collective in Construction.
The flag was presented to Josefina Pantoja Oquendo and Rita Zengotita Ramos, both of whom have broad experience in the political struggle against colonialism in Puerto Rico, which has been under US military occupation for 128 years.
The ceremony was dedicated to the founders of the Juan Rius Rivera Brigade, the deceased Agustin de Jesus Montero, Jorge Farinacci Garcia, and Miguel Cruz Santos.
Several prominent figures in the political and social movements, such as Sonia Santiago Hernandez, of Mothers Against War, and labor lawyer and political analyst Alejandro Torres Rivera, were also recognized for their support of the Juan Rius Rivera Brigade and the CSC.
