During the meeting, which addressed the upcoming Extraordinary AU Summit on Strengthening Mechanisms for the Prevention, Management and Resolution of Conflicts, Antonio conveyed warm greetings from Angolan President Joao Lourenco.
The Angolan Foreign Minister noted that preparations for the meeting are at an advanced stage and expressed his appreciation to the AU Commission for its continued support.
Youssouf welcomed Angola’s active participation in the 49th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council, held here on July 28 and 29, noting that this reflects the high importance attached to the work of the Union and its decision-making bodies.
He reaffirmed the Commission’s full support for the Extraordinary Summit in Luanda, underscoring its importance in advancing Africa’s peace and security agenda, including the objective of silencing the guns and creating the necessary conditions for sustainable development across the continent.
They also exchanged views on the evolving situations in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, the Sahel, and AU-led peace support operations.
In this regard, the Chairperson of the AU Commission acknowledged the important leadership role played by Lourenco in advancing regional stability.
