FAO presents plan to tackle Transboundary Animal Diseases

Rome, Jul 28 (Prensa Latina) The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) presented a new strategic plan to tackle Transboundary Animal Diseases (TAD), a press release stated on Tuesday.

“We must ensure that the next chapter of global animal health is defined not by crisis, but by cooperation, responsibility, and shared success,” FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu stated regarding this program, a release issued by the international institution’s press office stresses.

The Global Partnership Program for Transboundary Animal Diseases (GPP-TAD) will be developed in five interrelated areas, including the prevention and progressive control of diseases, as well as digital surveillance, early warning, and innovation in animal health.

It also encompasses risk-based preparedness and early, anticipatory action, in addition to coordinated and rapid emergency response, legislation, partnerships, and financing models.

The GPP-TAD is “a robust global platform for solidarity, shared responsibility, and sustainable and predictable investment,” said Qu, who emphasized that “healthy food comes from healthy soil, healthy plants, and healthy animals for a healthy environment and a healthy life.”
