“The British hypocritically ignore the fact that they are sacrificing Ukrainian lives and are directly involved in terrorist attacks against the civilian population and infrastructure in Russia, with the aim of prolonging the conflict for their own benefit,” Zakharova declared at a press conference.
The diplomat maintained that the UK’s drive to inflict maximum damage on Russia and provoke a dangerous confrontation will persist regardless of who is in power in London.
In this regard, she noted that British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, upon receiving an award from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, assured him of “the unchangeable nature of London’s pro-Kyiv stance, regardless of any change of government” in the country.
The spokeswoman remembered that Starmer announced the UK’s intention to seek 300 million euros for the joint production and delivery—alongside Sweden—of 16 new Gripen E fighter jets to the Ukrainian Armed Forces by 2029, a third of which consist of British components.
“He likely also senses what fate and outcome await them if they are used against Russia,” the spokeswoman added.
At the same time, however, Zakharova emphasized that Russia is fundamentally willing to build relations with the UK if London respects Moscow’s national interests and establishes interaction on a basis of equality.
