The solidarity movement highlighted in a statement from the western province of Chiriqui that on July 26, 1953, National Rebelliousness Day, symbolizes the commitment, determination, and fighting spirit of the Cuban people in their struggle for a free, sovereign homeland, master of its own destiny.
That feat, staged by a group of young people led by Fidel Castro (1926-2016), according to the document, is being commemorated amid the complex circumstances stemming from the economic, commercial, and financial blockade, as well as intensified pressure measures imposed by the United States.
The text emphasizes that this reality makes international solidarity and the call for the lifting of measures that affect Cuba’s well-being and development even more necessary.
The Cuban people, it adds, continue to demonstrate strength, dignity, and a firm will to defend their sovereignty, self-determination, and the social project they freely chose to build.
