Under the theme “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063,” the two-day meeting at the headquarters of the continental organization brings together foreign ministers and high-level officials from the member states.
Today’s agenda includes, among other activities, statements from African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf and the foreign ministers of Ethiopia, Gedion Timothewos, and Burundi, Edouard Bizimana, who also serves as Chairperson of the Executive Council of AU.
The program includes deliberations on the reports of the Implementation Committee of Agenda 2063.
It also includes a meeting of the Committee on accelerating the ratification and implementation of the organization’s treaties.
This high-level meeting comes at a critical time for Africa, where population growth, rapid urbanization, climate change, and increasing water scarcity are placing unprecedented pressure on the continent’s water and sanitation systems.
