Baghdad denounces US and Saudi Arabian attacks on its territory

Baghdad, Jul 29 (Prensa Latina) The Iraqi Presidency condemned the joint US and Saudi Arabian airstrikes against positions of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and warned against the use of its territory to settle regional conflicts.

In a statement, the institution described the bombings as an unacceptable aggression and a flagrant violation of Iraqi sovereignty, as well as an attack against official security agencies.

The Presidency stated that these actions contravene international law and the Charter of the United Nations, and reaffirmed Baghdad’s categorical rejection of any aggression against its territory.

It also reiterated its opposition to Iraq being used as a platform to launch attacks against neighboring countries or as a stage for settling regional and international scores.

According to the statement, this position is based on the principles of good neighborliness, respect for the sovereignty of states, and non-interference in their internal affairs.

The Presidency called on all parties to respect Iraqi sovereignty and refrain from taking any actions that could threaten the country’s security and stability.

It also called for prioritizing dialogue to resolve the crises and prevent a further escalation of tensions in the region.

The Popular Mobilization Forces reported that 20 of their members were killed and 32 others wounded in airstrikes against their facilities in seven Iraqi provinces.

Meanwhile, the US Central Command and the Saudi Ministry of Defense confirmed joint operations against facilities and weapons depots they attributed to Iranian-backed militias.

Washington and Riyadh stated that the attacks were in response to recent drone strikes against Saudi oil facilities and US military bases in the region.
