Lazo stressed at the opening of the session, which is being held virtually with the participation of lawmakers nationwide and in the presence of the leader of the Revolution, Raul Castro, that the legislators must meet “with the same spirit as the Moncada attackers” and with the legacy of the Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.
“Revolution is changing everything that must be changed, it is emancipating ourselves by ourselves and with our own effort,” the ANPP president remembered quoting the concept of Revolution by the historical leader, Fidel Castro.
The meeting’s agenda includes an analysis of the implementation of the economic and social reforms approved in the previous extraordinary session, as well as six bills with a direct impact on society, including the Labor Code and the Housing Law.
He informed that the 176 reforms approved were enriched by 171 proposals made by lawmakers during the previous debate, and 100 percent of those proposals were taken into account.
Lazo also denounced the context of the tightened US blockade and remembered President Miguel Diaz-Canel’s words at the July 26 main event: “The US government has consciously designed and implemented a policy of maximum economic strangulation against the Cuban people.”
The president of the legislative body announced that 10 new lawmakers were elected in different municipalities across the country last week and were sworn in at the meeting.
Among them are Justice Minister Rosabel Gamon, National Assembly Legal Director Alejandro Redondo, Prensa Latina President Jorge Legañoa, and representatives from many sectors, including agriculture, health, and education.
