Frente Amplio rejects Milei’s insults on Brazilian president

Montevideo, Jul 29 (Prensa Latina) The Frente Amplio (FA) rejected the insults directed by the Argentine president—while in Brazil—at that country's leader, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

Over the weekend, Milei participated in the launch of the candidacy of Flavio Bolsonaro—son of former President Jair Bolsonaro—at the Liberal Party convention in Sao Paulo.

There, he criticized the fact that the Brazilian justice system had not allowed him to visit his “friend,” who is “unjustly imprisoned.” Furthermore, he labeled Lula a “thief” and accused him of “spreading socialism” across Latin America.

The FA’s Executive Secretariat issued a statement deeming the Argentine president’s actions an intervention in the campaign—conduct it considered “unacceptable” for a head of state.

“It is unacceptable for a head of state to engage in such interference in the internal affairs of another state, disparaging and insulting institutions and a democratically elected president,” the statement emphasizes.

Milei’s remarks are “incompatible with the principles that must be respected in relations between sister nations and Mercosur partners,” and constitute an “attack on a country’s democratic government,” the text concludes.

The Frente Amplio expressed its solidarity with Lula, as well as with the peoples of Brazil and Argentina.

It also called for “defending democracy against the onslaught of political projects that seek to divide societies, weaken institutions, and undermine peaceful coexistence.”
