Italy faces fourth heat wave with temperature peaks of 44 degrees

Rome, Jul 29 (Prensa Latina) Italy is facing the fourth heat wave of the current season, which will last more than two weeks, in which maximum temperatures are expected to reach 44.0 degrees Celsius.

The thermometers have already begun to show a remarkable upward variation, mainly in areas of the center and north of this European nation, as well as in the southern region of Sardinia, and gradually the change will spread to the rest of the country, point out experts on statements released on the digital site of La Stampa newspaper.

This fourth wave “will be similar to the third and will be characterized by a suffocating heat, with maximum temperatures between 37 and 42 degrees Celsius in the plains of the interior of the Italian peninsula, with peaks that could reach 44 degrees Celsius in Sicily and Sardinia”, noted meteorologist Andrea Vuolo.

On the other hand, night temperatures will also rise, “reaching between 20 and 24 degrees Celsius in major northern Italian cities such as Turin and Milan, as well as central Rome and Florence,” Vuolo said.

“The air masses coming from Africa, as they pass over the Mediterranean, will be enriched with steam in the lower layers, generating an even more intense feeling of embarrassment because we start from a humidity that is already relatively high”, explained the specialist.

Antonello Pasini, climatologist of the National Research Council (CNR), considered that these phenomena are part of a worrying general picture, because temperatures will reach 7 or 8 degrees above average.

The successive heat waves, increasingly strong, prove “that climate change in the Mediterranean region is moving at a rapid pace,” said Pasini.
