According to Jose Manzaneda, coordinator of Cubainformación, who spoke to Prensa Latina, several more shipments are expected to depart in the coming months, also through the Port of Bilbao, in the Biscayan town of Santurtzi.
The Basque friendship association Euskadi-Cuba has taken on the tasks of coordinating, logistical, internal transport, financing, and shipping the aid to the island by sea.
Javier Garijo and Ainhoa Correa, from Euskadi-Cuba, explained that Monday’s container contained food, hygiene products, and clothing destined for the Quisicuaba Community Project, which serves vulnerable people, especially the elderly, in Centro Habana.
The following shipments will include educational materials, computers, and bicycles for CUJAE (Jose Antonio Echeverria Technological University of Havana); educational and sports equipment for the municipality of Palma Soriano; and medical supplies for the Cuban Ministry of Public Health.
“People have been suffering from the US blockade for far too many years, and the situation the Cuban people endure is becoming increasingly difficult,” Correa commented.
“It’s another type of genocide, one that violates international law, but the European Union and the world in general turn a blind eye,” he added.
For his part, Garijo praised the collaborative work, not only among Basque entities but also with associations in Spain, that participate in these shipments.
