This remark was made by PhD. Fidel Antonio Castro Smirnov, academician of the Cuban Academy of Sciences, in his speech entitled “The Architecture of the Future: Traditional Values as the Foundation of Sustainable Development and Social Responsibility,” delivered at the major event held on July 29-30.
Castro Smirnov remembered the legacy of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, in Africa and the participation of thousands of soldiers, doctors, and teachers from the Caribbean nation in support missions to Ethiopia, Angola, and other countries of the continent, states a release from the Cuban Embassy in Addis Ababa sent to this agency.
The academician highlighted the historical solidarity between Cuba and Africa, both in international forums and within the African Union (AU), in the face of the United States-imposed blockade.
He denounced the current energy crisis in Cuba, which is severely impacting public health, and warned of the risk this coercive mechanism could be extended to other African countries.
He stood out Cuba’s scientific and medical achievements, including the development of its vaccines, innovative medicines such as Heberprot-P and HeberSaVax, and the training of more than 32,000 doctors from 122 countries at the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM).
Castro Smirnov called on young Africans to defend an alternative model of science and solidarity in the face of an unjust global system, reaffirming that Havana is not seeking sympathy, but rather to continue building bridges of cooperation with the continent based on equality and reciprocity.
