Cuban Ambassador to this nation, Oscar Cornelio Oliva; Claudio Perez, historian at the University of Santiago; and Patricio Lagos, of the Estrella Roja publishing house, participated in the panel, convened to commemorate Fidel Castro’s 100th birthday and the 73rd anniversary of the attack on the Moncada Garrison.
Cornelio Oliva addressed the objective of the 176 measures approved in his country, which are grouped into 23 thematic areas, aimed at consolidating socialism, increasing production, unleashing productive forces, and incentivizing investment.
The Cuban ambassador spoke about the current situation his country is facing due to the tightened economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States, including a months-long oil siege.
Historian Claudio Perez highlighted the widespread nature of the activities in support of Cuba in this and other countries of the continent.
The forum was organized by Chile Popular and Estrella Roja Ediciones publishing houses.
Patricio Lagos referred to some of the published books, including “The Communist Manifesto” by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, and “La Historia me Absolvera” (History Will Absolve Me), Fidel Castro’s self-defense plea at the Moncada trial, which would later become the political program of the Cuban Revolution.
Several groups of Chileans will travel to Cuba in August to participate in the events commemorating Fidel Castro’s 100th birthday.
