In a post on the US social media platform X, the head of Iranian diplomacy stated that Egypt’s security is of fundamental importance to Tehran, noting that “Egypt is an important friend and partner in the region, and its security is of utmost importance to us,” Araqchi said.

  The foreign minister added that countries in the region must remain vigilant against “Israeli conspiracies and false-flag operations seeking to undermine regional peace.”

  These statements marked the first official Iranian reaction following the circulation of unconfirmed allegations attempting to link Tehran to an attack on two vessels in the Egyptian port of Damietta, located in the Nile Delta about 200 kilometers north of Cairo.

  The Iranian mission in the Egyptian capital reposted Araqchi’s message on its Facebook page and issued two statements denying any involvement by the Islamic Republic in the incident.

  An official source at the Iranian Foreign Ministry denied media reports regarding an alleged attack on a floating natural gas storage and regasification unit in Damietta.

  Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei asserted that the drone attack on facilities in Egypt had no connection whatsoever to Iran and held the United States responsible for the rise in regional insecurity.
