Italian communists to mark Fidel Castro’s centenary in Cuba

Rome, Jul 31 (Prensa Latina) A delegation from the Italian "Network of Communists" (*Red de los Comunistas*) will visit Cuba during the first half of August to participate in events marking the centenary of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, according to a report.

The delegation from this political party will be led by academic Luciano Vasapollo, alongside organization officials Giacomo Marchetti and Rita Martufi. They will attend the 1st International Colloquium “Fidel: Legacy and Future,” to be held from August 10 to 13 at the Convention Palace in Havana.

The gathering is organized by the Fidel Castro Ruz Center in collaboration with other Cuban institutions to commemorate the centenary of the birth of the Cuban Revolution’s historic leader. The event will bring together researchers, historians, academics, and social leaders from around the world.

Discussions will focus on Fidel’s political and ideological legacy, analyzing his contributions as a revolutionary fighter and statesman in world history, his role in emancipation processes, and his stance against imperialism, neo-fascism, hegemonism, and neocolonialism, among other topics.

An analysis published on the *Il Faro di Roma* news website regarding the Network of Communists officials’ visit to Cuba states that, amidst the intensification of the blockade against the nation, the United States is “attempting to weaken the socialist perspective and the paths toward political autonomy in Latin America.”

This trip “takes place in a context where it is necessary to strengthen relations among communist and anti-imperialist organizations at an international level,” Vasapollo and Martufi stated to the media outlet.

This mission to Cuba, they reaffirmed, “represents a moment of engagement with a political experience considered central to the Latin American landscape and, at the same time, an opportunity to relaunch the debate on the role of socialism, the self-determination of peoples, and international solidarity,” the source adds.
