This was the recommendation made by the technical commission formed to investigate the matter, as stated in its initial report to Rector Leonardo Lomeli.
The Rector deemed the body’s suggestion appropriate and clarified that this is not a new exam, but rather a verification test designed to ensure that accepted candidates earned their spots through their own efforts and did not receive assistance that gave them an unfair advantage over others.
He apologized to applicants who—having been fairly accepted—will now be called upon to take this additional test, but maintained that it is “necessary to provide certainty and guarantee equity in access.”
Furthermore, he called upon society as a whole, as well as young people seeking admission to the university and their families, to adhere to “ethical behavior” and avoid succumbing “to the temptation of resorting to fraudulent assistance.”
He noted that, given the particularly anomalous results regarding the distribution of correct answers in the selection process, UNAM needed to offer a solution that would allow the situation to be rectified as soon as possible and enable the semester to begin without significantly altering the approved academic calendar.
Regarding who must take the verification exam, the digital edition of the newspaper *La Jornada* specified that the call will apply to individuals who had already received a selection notice for admission to UNAM for the 2026 intake based on the original exam.
