Vasilyev told Sputnik, “Tensions are rising, although Belarusian leaders are trying to avoid provocative actions and confrontational rhetoric.”
The Russian diplomat also noted that neighboring countries should be aware that Russia will stand by Belarus, both within the framework of the Union State and the CSTO.
Vasilyev pointed out that “the final decision rests on Belarus” regarding the situation on its borders.
The CSTO, consisting of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, and Tajikistan, is based on a 1992 treaty, although it was formally established in 2002.
