Visual art to evoke Fidel Castro’s humanism in Cuba

Havana, Aug 1 (Prensa Latina) Cuba is preparing to commemorate the centenary of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro on August 13; his legacy as one of the greatest political leaders of all time will be highlighted in a tribute exhibition.

The exhibition, titled *Fidel Castro: Documentary Memory*, will open that day on the second floor of the Santo Domingo Building in Havana’s Old Section.

Photographs, documents, and philatelic items make up the visual display, which is further enriched by the screening of the audiovisual work *Flora: Where Will Became a Giant*, focusing on the 1963 weather event.

The film’s director, Cuban filmmaker Fidel Oliva, will give a talk explaining the process of bringing to the screen what is considered the second-worst catastrophe recorded in Cuba.

The documentary reflects “Fidel’s skill and courage in saving his people, as well as his sensitivity regarding natural disasters,” notes a publication by the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana.

That event marked yet another battle waged by the Cuban people—one in which the guidance of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution proved indispensable; he remains forever remembered for his contributions to both Cuba and humanity.
