Brazilian industry linked to cachaca production grows

Brasilia, Aug 2 (Prensa Latina) Brazil saw an increase in the number of establishments dedicated to the cachaca production chain in 2025, consolidating the expansion of an activity considered a cultural symbol, according to press reports.

According to the *Cachaca Yearbook* released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock, the country recorded 1,583 facilities for producing this sugarcane-based distilled spirit—a figure 272 higher than that of 2024.

The statistics cover producers, standardizers, bottlers, and wholesalers of the spirit, the production of which is a traditional activity within Brazil’s agro-industrial sector.

Since 2018, the number of establishments has risen by 61 percent, reflecting the consolidation of a market that combines artisanal and industrial production and has also expanded its international presence.

The report revealed that the Southeast remains the country’s leading production region, accounting for 62.5 percent of registered establishments.

Production ranges from small family-run stills to large industrial operations, while also generating jobs and income across various rural regions.

Authorities view the sector’s growth as confirmation of a strengthened production chain and the formalization of new business ventures—factors considered essential for boosting the spirit’s competitiveness in both domestic and international markets.
