The entity confirmed on social media that two units of the Energas Boca de Jaruco combined-cycle power plant, located in Mayabeque province, were the first to reconnect to the national grid in western Cuba.
The UNE also reported that the startup of the Junco Sur diesel-powered distributed generation plant restored power to the provincial and pediatric hospitals in Cienfuegos, as well as the region’s telecommunications company.
Meanwhile, six substations in Havana now have power, energizing 11 distribution circuits with 28 mw, which benefits 33,282 customers, representing 3.8 percent of the capital.
The UNE also noted that five hospitals in Havana and two water supply centers have electricity, guaranteeing basic services for the population.
All these actions are being conducted after another disconnection of the SEN at 22:43 hours (local time) on August 2, which was preceded by a partial system disconnection in western Cuba due to failures in the 220-kw lines of Matanzas-Cienfuegos and Matanzas-Santa Clara, whose service was restored early Sunday.
Cuban Energy and Mines Minister Vicente de la O Levy recently stated that the unexpected disconnection of the SEN was not due to operational failures but to the current conditions all power generation plants nationwide are facing.
