The semi-official Fars agency cited an unnamed source close to the Iranian negotiating team, stating that the reports circulating about the opening of this strategic waterway are “incorrect” and do not reflect reality.
Meanwhile, an anonymous military source stated that the strait will remain closed as long as Washington maintains its “hostile actions” against the Islamic Republic.
The source added that vessels would only be permitted to transit via the established route and with authorization from the Navy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
These statements came hours after U.S. President Donald Trump announced the cancellation of planned attacks on Iran, contingent upon the rapid conclusion of an agreement.
Trump stated that any such understanding would need to include the immediate and complete reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, in addition to addressing Iran’s nuclear program.
The president had warned that the United States would strike Iran hard until Tehran declared it could no longer withstand the offensive, and later asserted that the confrontation was proceeding favorably for Washington.
