The semi-official agency Fars, pointed out that the air defense system of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps detected the unmanned aircraft, identified it as a target and proceeded to shoot it down.
So far, neither the Iranian nor US authorities have issued an official statement on the incident.
The event came a day after US President Donald Trump announced that he was canceling his planned attacks on Iran, conditional on a swift agreement.
Between July 8 and 24, the US launched attacks on targets in Iranian territory, while Tehran responded with operations against what it described as US military installations and equipment in several Arab countries, including Jordan, Bahrain, and Kuwait.
The escalation took place after Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding on June 18 and began negotiations to reach a final agreement.
However, the talks were stalled by disagreements related to security guarantees and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the main sea routes for energy supply and world trade.
On February 28, the US and Israel launched attacks against Iran that, according to Tehran, caused more than three thousand deaths.
The Islamic Republic responded with operations that, according to its authorities, resulted in casualties among US and Israeli personnel.
