Speaking on the Telesur program *El Mapa*, the head of Parliament maintained there is certainty that Washington will continue to exert pressure on Nicaragua, noting that this has been a constant throughout the history of relations between the two countries.
“I don’t just think so; I am certain,” Porras said when asked about the possibility of further U.S. actions, recalling that the U.S. government has already imposed sanctions on Nicaraguan institutions, lawmakers, and other officials.
In this regard, he reiterated that Nicaragua prioritizes peace—a condition he described as indispensable for consolidating stability, security, and economic development.
“We want peace,” the legislative leader emphasized, adding that this message has been conveyed to the United States, European nations, and other international stakeholders.
He added that the Sandinista government will continue to deepen the so-called “People as President” model, which aims—as he described it—to ensure higher levels of well-being and reduce poverty.
“Nicaragua does not want war; it wants peace,” the lawmaker reiterated, insisting that the people will continue advancing their development project without being intimidated by external pressures or political campaigns against them.
