Panama boosts economic cooperation with Indonesia and ASEAN

Panama City, Aug 2 (Prensa Latina) Vice Foreign Minister Carlos Hoyos reportedly held several meetings in Jakarta, Indonesia, aimed at strengthening economic cooperation, expanding investment opportunities, and consolidating Panama's ties with Southeast Asia.

A Foreign Ministry statement noted that the diplomat met at the headquarters of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) with Deputy Secretary-General for ASEAN Economic Community, Satvinder Singh, with whom he discussed mechanisms to boost trade, investment, and strategic cooperation between Panama and the 10 member countries of the regional bloc.

Vice Minister Hoyos highlighted during the meeting that Panama is the leading logistics, maritime, and financial hub in Latin America, an ideal platform for connecting Southeast Asian economies with markets in the region.

The authorities agreed on the importance of advancing this country’s accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), as a step toward strengthening political and economic ties with ASEAN.

They also assessed opportunities to boost trade and analyzed the regional economic outlook, including the impact of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.

Hoyos also met, as part of his agenda in Indonesia, with Minister of Investment and Danantara sovereign wealth fund Rosan Perkasa Roeslani to explore new investment opportunities and strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.
