Warmth of solidarity with Cuba felt in cold Neuquen, Argentina

Buenos Aires, Aug 2 (Prensa Latina) Neither the Antarctic chill nor the heavy snowfall of this southern winter prevented dozens of Argentines from expressing their warm solidarity in the Patagonian province of Neuquen.

BbThe Cuba Friendship House in the capital of that Andean province organized an event to support the Cuban people and condemn the brutal blockade imposed by the United States government.

Social, trade union, and human rights activists, as well as members of political parties—including the local Communist Party—attended the gathering. They made it clear that “solidarity with Cuba cannot be extinguished,” according to attendees who spoke with Prensa Latina.

The event also featured a look back at history and memory, shared by architect Luis Grisolia. He recounted his experiences studying and working on the island in 1963 and 1991—two pivotal moments in the Cuban revolutionary process—where he practiced his profession in a spirit of solidarity as part of the Territorial, Regional, and Urban Reorganization Plan.

It was a vital gathering, taking place at a time when the United States continues to intensify the pressure it has exerted on the neighboring island for over 60 years—a blockade that has been further deepened by a suffocating oil embargo.

Activists from the Communist Party of Neuquen and Alto Valle of Rio Negro attended the meeting. Victor Frias, the party’s provincial organizing secretary, highlighted that the event demonstrated “that solidarity with Cuba is constant for us” and noted that they continue to bring more organizations and individuals into the fold of solidarity with the Cuban people.

He affirmed that the growth of this movement “is fundamental to defending the socialist project in Cuba amidst current difficulties, and to defending an economic and social model that remains fully valid: Socialism.”
