A Foreign Ministry statement noted that Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani held talks with former Lebanese Ambassador to the United States, Simon Karam, and the current head of the Israeli diplomatic mission in Washington, Yechiel Leiter.
The 7th round of talks in Rome, to be held at the US Embassy, which is facilitating the negotiations, follows the initial five rounds held in Washington, after which a framework agreement was signed on June 26.
The 6th round was held on July 14-15 at the same embassy.
During his phone conversations with Karam and Leiter, Tajani expressed satisfaction with the initial results achieved after the July round and encouraged the parties to continue “in a constructive spirit, identifying common solutions that will allow for the full implementation of the Framework Agreement.”
The release noted that the Italian foreign minister “welcomed the redeployment of the Lebanese Armed Forces in the Froun-Srifa and Western Zawtar areas, describing it as a concrete sign of the progress achieved.”
He reaffirmed the importance of consolidating the ceasefire between the parties and continuing the negotiations, while also confirming Italy’s support for the Lebanese State.
