Parolin and Mexican Foreign Secretary Roberto Velasco held a working meeting on Tuesday to discuss bilateral relations.

The Foreign Secretariat (SRE) noted in a post on X that Mexico and the Holy See will commemorate in September 34 years of restoring diplomatic relations.

The SRE stated that during this period “they have maintained a long tradition of support for the peaceful settlement of disputes, international law, and the strengthening of multilateralism.”

In May 2025, Pope Leo XIV sent greetings to Sheinbaum and the people of Mexico upon receiving a letter inviting him to visit the Latin American nation, delivered by Government Secretary Rosa Icela Rodriguez at the Holy See.
