Potential of Russia and Brazil in maritime technologies highlighted

Moscow, August 5 (Prensa Latina) Russia and Brazil possess significant potential for the joint development of advanced maritime technologies—including robotics as well as unmanned and autonomous systems—stated Kremlin aide Nikolai Patrushev.

Patrushev, who also chairs the Russian Maritime Board and is currently on a working visit to Brazil, told the press that there are great prospects for jointly developing advanced technologies in many other areas, such as energy and navigation systems, materials science, climate resilience, and crew training simulators.

He also described cooperation in the field of bio-inspired technologies as promising—a field that, he noted, is actively being developed in Russia. “We invite Brazil to collaborate in the area of maritime logistics,” Patrushev added.

He further noted that Russia is making its expertise in icebreaker construction available to Brazil—a sector in which he asserted the country is a world leader.

In his view, Russian experience in developing low-power nuclear reactors could also be of interest to Brazil.

He specified that this involves not only reactors for the maritime fleet but also small reactors and floating nuclear units designed for remote areas that require minimal maintenance.

Among other areas of cooperation, Patrushev highlighted polar research.

“Given Brazil’s growing interest in Arctic and Antarctic exploration, we consider it important to develop and launch a comprehensive polar research program by combining the efforts of various research institutes from our countries,” he concluded.
