The two Spanish autonomous cities, especially Ceuta, became a global focal point with an influx of more than 50,000 people from Morocco (now estimated at 80,000) illegally crossing the border.
The Ceuta Government informed that the migrants’ death toll had risen to 88, a figure that differs significantly from that of the central Executive.
Defense Minister Margarita Robles categorically denied that the National Intelligence Center (CNI) had privileged information about the influx of Moroccan citizens that was being developed on July 30.
Robles also demanded that Morocco provide details, if it had them, about the thwarted operation, which had the support of both governments, regarding the involvement of criminal organizations or any intervention by the Rabat regime.
The Spanish Foreign Ministry, in turn, confirmed in a release that almost all of the migrants who crossed into Ceuta on July 30 have already been returned to Morocco.
