The event underway in Salvador, the capital of Bahia state, featured a performance by singer Belo Velloso and a theatrical presentation dedicated to poet Myriam Fraga (1937–2016)—the edition’s primary honoree alongside visual artist Calasans Neto.
Fraga, who presided over the Casa de Jorge Amado Foundation for three decades, played a pivotal role in preserving and promoting the acclaimed writer’s body of work.
The coincidence with the 25th anniversary of Amado’s passing (1912–2001) lends special significance to the celebration, which was created specifically to preserve the memory of the author of *Gabriela, Clove and Cinnamon*; *Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands*; and *Captains of the Sands*.
The event also seeks to promote Bahian culture and foster an interest in literature, particularly among young people.
Inspired by the Paraty International Literary Festival (Flip), this edition of Flipelo also coincides with the 40th anniversary of the Casa de Jorge Amado Foundation, which has organized the gathering since 2017.
Prominent figures in Brazilian literature—such as Maria do Carmo, Magnolia Gomes de Oliveira, and Domingos Ailton—are featured among a total of more than 500 Brazilian writers and nine international guests.
Organizers anticipate an attendance of around 250,000 people across more than 150 venues in Salvador’s historic center.
