According to the institution’s official website, Rivera—an associate professor of dance at Virginia Commonwealth University and a former principal dancer with Ballet Hispanico of New York—has returned to Camaguey for his third collaboration with the company, which is led by Regina Balaguer.
The choreographer’s previous visits led to the premieres of the works *Por el Tiempo*, *En el Vacio*, and *Especie en Viaje*. These pieces have been added to the repertoire of the group, one of Cuba’s most prestigious dance companies and heir to a legacy of significant creators dating back to its very inception.
During his initial meeting with the company members, Rivera outlined the characteristics of the three new works he is developing with the group; these pieces are set to premiere soon in a show under the general direction of Diannys Gonzalez Escalona.
The institution is also distinguished by its participation in national and international festivals, as well as by collaborative ties established with choreographers and instructors from various countries—exchanges that enrich the dancers’ training and facilitate the incorporation of new performance styles into the company’s repertoire.
