During a new round of consultations led by the National Assembly’s Special Constitutional Commission, both institutions stated that the amendments would help consolidate the country’s path of development, stability, and peace.
At the meeting, Attorney General Wendy Morales noted that the Constitution represents much more than a set of supreme laws.
She added that municipalities constitute the level of government closest to the daily lives of Nicaraguan families, as it is at the local level that public policies are translated into infrastructure projects and services.
More than 3,000 officials from the country’s 153 municipalities participated virtually in the consultation session, where they were briefed on and expressed support for the constitutional reform initiative.
Morales highlighted that the transformations undergone by municipalities require stronger institutions with greater technical, legal, and administrative capabilities to meet the population’s growing demands.
In this regard, she deemed it necessary to have a Constitution that addresses the country’s social and institutional needs and strengthens the organization of the State, in line with international best practices. jdt/car/ybv
