Quito Mayor seeks re-election with left-wing alliance

Quito, Aug 7 (Prensa Latina) Quito Mayor Pabel Munoz registered his candidacy to seek re-election in the November local elections, backed by an unprecedented alliance of left-wing organizations in Ecuador.

The mayor, a member of the Citizen Revolution (RC) movement, formalized his bid during a symbolic event held this Thursday at the Pichincha Provincial Electoral Delegation.

Although the registration process is conducted virtually, Muñoz visited the electoral body’s headquarters accompanied by hundreds of supporters, who marched with flags and banners through streets in the northern part of the Ecuadorian capital.

The politician is aiming for a second term leading the municipality with the support of the Citizen Alliance, comprising *Unidad Popular* (Popular Unity), the Ecuadorian Socialist Party, the *Todos* (All) movement, and the RC—an organization linked to former President Rafael Correa (2007–2017) that has been under suspension since last March.

In a speech, the mayor stated that the agreement reached among these forces transcends the electoral process and reflects a shared vision for the city.

“Furthermore, our differences are not disrespectful; they are differences that respect our respective civic, social, and political histories,” he said.

Munoz pledged that, if re-elected, he would maintain public investment, mobility, support for the most vulnerable sectors, and the development of Quito’s rural areas as the core pillars of his administration.
