A statement published on the official website of the CGIL, the country’s largest labor union federation and one of the most important in Europe, states that a delegation of ten directors from the Italian Federation of Agro-Industrial Workers (FLAI), a union affiliated with the CGIL, left Rome for the island on Friday.
The document notes that this is the second visit by the FLAI-CGIL delegates to Cuba this year, following one they made in late April and early May, when they participated alongside the Cuban people in International Workers’ Day celebrations.
The agro-industrial union reinforces its decades of solidarity by joining the third European Convoy “Tras los Pasos de Fidel” (Following in Fidel’s Footsteps), supported by the Agency for Cultural and Economic Exchange with Cuba (AICEC).
The text notes that this visit, which will last until August 21, is part of the “Let Cuba Breathe” international campaign. During this period, union delegates will deliver donations to hospitals and workplaces, and attend activities commemorating Fidel Castro’s 100th birthday.
Nicoletta Grieco, director of the European and International Policies Area of the CGIL, told Prensa Latina that this Italian trade union confederation aims to strengthen its support for the Cuban people in the face of an increased economic blockade and the threat of military aggression from the United States.
