The case involves human rights violations against residents of San Javier locality, in Rio Negro department, and the torture and murder of PhD. Roslik, in operations conducted by the military forces between 1980 and 1984.
The convicted officers are retired military personnel Jorge Ricardo Soloviy, Rodolfo Gustavo Costas, Luis Pedro Estebenet, Daniel Edgardo Castella, Oscar Mario Rocca, Sergio Hector Caubarrere, Eduardo Saiz Pedrini, Dardo Ivo Morales, and Abel Perez.
The nine former military officers were condemned by Fray Bentos Judge Claudio de Leon to different sentences in late December 2025, ranging from 11 years and six months to 15 years.
The sentence was for being criminally responsible as co-perpetrators of repeated crimes of unlawful deprivation of freedom, abuse of authority, and serious bodily harm inflicted on detainees.
Although the defense lawyers argued that the statute of limitations had expired, the court ruling reaffirms the validity of the legal process in the face of systematic human rights violations.
