China urges US not to slander relations with Cuba

Beijing, Aug 10 (Prensa Latina) China called on the United States not to slander relations between other countries and reiterated its support for defending Cuba's sovereignty against external interference.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson’s Office stated, in response to a question from Prensa Latina, that Beijing has repeatedly expressed its firm position on issues related to the island.

The Office called on Washington to lift the sanctions and blockade measures against the Caribbean nation as soon as possible and refrain from repeatedly defaming other countries.

As part of its hostile policy of harassment against Cuba, the United States announced last week new sanctions on five state entities and eight officials of the Caribbean nation.

The Department of State announced that the new measures concern companies and officials linked to the Revolutionary Armed Forces Ministry (MINFAR), for alleged arms imports and military cooperation with Russia and China.

Among the officials are Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) Minister Alvaro Lopez Miera, Chief of Staff Roberto Legra Sotolongo, Head of MINFAR’s Foreign Relations Directorate Jose Antonio Remon Rodriguez, and the economic director, Oscar Enrique Biosca Gallego.

The new sanctions also target Cuba’s military attaches in Russia, Monica Milian Gomez, and in China, Waldo Perez Cortes, as well as other officials.
