Israel officially refuses to withdraw from Gaza

Tel Aviv, Aug 9 (Prensa Latina) Israeli troops will not leave Gaza, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu affirmed at a cabinet meeting.

“Our military will not leave Gaza until Hamas is disarmed and continues to prevent threats against our people and our forces,” he said.

In essence, the decision is a tacit rejection of the 15-point plan drawn up by US President Donald Trump, the basis of the program for restoring peace to the Palestinian coastal strip devastated by almost three years of Israeli bombing.

Israel possesses one of the 10 most powerful militaries on the planet, as well as nuclear weapons. Hours earlier, the leadership of the Palestinian movement Hamas, which remains willing to proceed with the Washington plan, urged “pressure to be exerted on Israel to comply with the roadmap whose aim is to end the Israeli genocide in Gaza.”

Since October 2023, Israeli forces have unleashed their full military might against Gaza, leaving a trail of nearly 74,000 dead, more than half of them women and children. They have destroyed the electrical and hospital infrastructure.

They have also destroyed tens of thousands of homes, whose residents now live in squalid conditions in refugee camps dependent on humanitarian aid, particularly from Egypt, which has sent more than one million tons of food, medicine, medical supplies, and fuel to date.
